Lessons from the HT Summit Talk by Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone and Karan Johar

Some notes from a talk by a group of Creative People from the Indian Film Industry

Collective Thinking and Support in an Industry

Karan Johar had brought up the subject of unity within the film fraternity. To answer this Aamir spoke about two of his biggest learning from Satyameva Jayate, which were
a) The places where there was unity or collective thought were the places where there was happiness and prosperity
b) The places where there was no unity or collective thought there were problems

Is Competition Good?

The discussion then moved on to the idea of box office figures and how these numbers determine success. Aamir spoke about how these days film makers could buy three to four editorials and make a film a hit. Deepika when asked by Karan about the subject of competition among the new stars replied as such (paraphrase)

'I come from the sports background. Here competition means a different thing. You always compete with yourself and want to be one better everyday. Also sometimes the insecurity works for you rather than against you.'

Role of Creativity People

Aamir mentioned a conversation with an American writer where she shared her thought on the above statement. This role also includes bringing grace to society, helping children develop good values through stories, creating heroes for people. The job of the creative people is to touch the good in you and make it bloom.
