But what fascinated me most about Joseph Campbell, was his love for learning.

College Education

He did a degree in biology and mathematics at Dartmouth college, but transferred to Columbia University where he received a BA in English Literature and an MA in Medieval Literature.

Five years of committed learning

During the great depression he spent five years in a rented shack reading and contemplating life. He commented on this period as such, “"would divide the day into four four-hour periods, of which I would be reading in three of the four hour periods, and free one of them... I would get nine hours of sheer reading done a day. And this went on for five years straight."

Travel Sabbatical

In 1955-56 he took a sabbatical and spent six months in South India and another six months in East Asia mostly Japan.
