Make a Friend Anywhere

You can indeed make a friend anywhere. Here is the story of one friend I made along the way.

Mrs Friend

She was a senior citizen who had a never-ending love for learning and a die hard passion, to live life to the fullest. She would scan the papers everyday for events happening around the city of Mumbai. Then she would attend as many of them as possible.

The first time I met her was at a conference at the St. Xaviers College in Mumbai. We struck up a conversation during a break between one of the sessions and remained friends throughout the 2 day conference.

When you bump into Beautiful People

There was another law student from Pune in the event, at Xaviers that night. He introduced himself and the three of us started speaking to each other during the breaks. After the conference, I informed them about a musical event happening at a book store close by. They told me they would be interested to attend the event. So we shared a taxi and headed there. It was about Tagore and his musical influences. There was a nice musical performance after a reading of Tagore’s text.

A Contemplative Discussion over Coffee

We stayed back after the event that night and chatted about life, philosophy, education, history and Tagore whose life was being described through a musical performance that evening. We were so involved in this conversation that we did not know how time passed by. The bookstore had to shut down by 10 p.m and thus we had to return back home. We would have continued our conversation the whole night if given the chance.

It was just so amazing how the three of us had just met up a few hours ago and connected at such an intimate level. Late into our conversation, something struck me that every person in this world had a story to share. If I listened and cared enough I could learn something from every person I met during the day. By really connecting with people, you can learn something from every individual around you.

Let us learn together
